As a community leader, former educator, and equity impact strategist topics have a vast range. Including, but not limited to, critical race theory, building anti-racist work and learning environment, addressing the layers and impacts of systemic, institutional, and structural racism, racial reconciliation, cultural intelligence praxis, raising anti-racist children, community restorative and transformative justice.
Sonia Lewis created the Teach-In program as a result of COVID-19 disrupting the lives of students. She was aware that BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, Person of Color) students were likely to not be provided with the essential tools to thrive in a "Pandemic Education" environment.
The Teach-In was created to complement traditional school learning environments, with a culturally responsive curriculum that centers the Black lived experiences. This "Ethnic Studies-ish" approach speaks to the needs of, not just Black students, but needs for all students.
